figment

a few years ago i was introduced to a friend of a friend who had heard a lot about me for a number of years – yet never met me. we had a joke that he had begun to to think of me as a figment of our mutual friends imagination. over the years we've formed our own friendship - odd, none the less friendship. yesterday – randomly – we co-exist for a moment in time and it was great. even better –– something else came out of that moment in time. i had a realization i haven't had in many many years. long enough that i had forgotten about it. i enjoy being a friend. i suck at it a lot, but i try. i try to listen. i try to make even the slightest hint of a smile appear, i try to help where i can. yesterday while talking to my friend, who ive picked up and dusted off a few times, i realized thats when i feel like i'm actually breathing in this world.

touching [repost]

my friend rusty posted this today and it hit me, so i thought i'd share.

In spite of any drama you go though.... in spite of any bad breaks and deals you have had to endure, in spite of all the hard times that so many of Us go through and are going through now...there is ALWAYS SOMEONE IN YOUR CORNER. Lean when you need to.

And We never forget why We do this and who We are.

If there is one piece of unsolicited advice I would be happy to give you, it is this:

'Do 'You' fearlessly and without regret. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you.

'

Thanks for believing in Us. We're just getting started...

'We Are Dynamic And People Like Us'

'We Are Dynamic And We Love You.'

Respect and Grace,

Rusty

fastlane

i dont think its a secret that i'm a fan of vehicles. downright point blank - they're sexy. cliche i know. but... the lines. the power. the art. the sound. all of it. muscle cars. custom cars. sports cars. race cars. classic cars. trail vehicles. there was a series out a few years back that used a lot of fine looking rides and incorporated it with great film work, excellent color, great music, humor and some decent plots centered around the candy store. it aired on friday nights at eight or nine. it was ryan, chad and myself hangin' – kick back some beverages of choice, playin' chess (which eventually turned into intoxicated sorry and drunken jenga) and the teevee dialed in on Fastlane. after a season and a half it got pulled. practically vanished. it resurfaced a few weeks ago on dvd and i saw it as a must buy. its been sitting on my kitchen counter since i bought it. i was afraid i was going to ruin those memories.... especially if the show wasn't what i remembered it being. never fear – popped it in this weekend. it was all still there but my two friday night buddies. check it.

video time warp - metal(ish)

POISON - Fallen Angel ('88)
Open Up And Say Ahhh.... huge album in my life. everything from the cover art to the last note of bad to be be good. i can remember riding around in mom's 1982 two-toned blue chevrolet caprice, thumbing the cassette into the player, trying to convince her that it wasn't going to make me do drugs and get thrown in jail.  watching dust shift as i was slammin' down the drum fills on the broad blue dash in front of me - the world seemed to make more sense.

BON JOVI - Wanted Dead or Alive ('86)
i watched it – and i wanted it. i wanted it all. i wanted to be on the road. i wanted to see the day to day. i wanted to help make the show happen. i knew it was long - i knew it was ugly, but i wanted it. i never wanted to be on stage... but i wanted to help those that were up there giving it their all day in, night out

SKID ROW - 18 and life ('89)
i was thirteen or fourteen when i heard this the first time. at that point, i couldnt wait to be eighteen. forget sixteen and wheels... i wanted to be eighteen so i could be out on my own.... doing things my way.... away from the rules and their roof... i look back now and i was the good kid, with a great mom. all i really wanted to do was be loved for who i was. Sebastian Bach's voice on that album took me away if only for a second.

BEASTIE BOYS - No Sleep 'til Brooklyn ('86)
i just remember seeing their videos in the eighties when we were sneaking mtv since we weren't supposed to watch it. my sister and i just sat there saying "What IS This???" mine was in a good way; hers – not so much. i was ten. at recess jimmy, nathan, myself and a few others would jam to anything that had a groove beat.

GUNS N' ROSES - It's So Easy ('87)
wearing my keds – no laces, this album and i walked for miles. we mowed the lawn. we rode in the third from the back seat on the right of the yella-fella. this album was a definite no-no. there were skulls on the cover – five of them. obscenities. drugs. arrests. hid that gn'r tshirt for a looong time. even washed it at a friends house.

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES - send me your money ('90)
my grandma was this lil older lady who was always very involved in the church. the teevee worships that were on back in the day infuriated her to no end. Reverend Send-Me-Your-Dollar is what she called them. lights...camera...revolution is still an album that gets brought out on road trips and after a crap-a-fied day.

METALLICA - One ('88)
1989 – they tried to ignore it when i picked up puppets from the rack.  the cover art - i had to have it.  had no idea what it would sound like.  i sat on the bus, slunk down, knees on the seat in front of me, i clunked the tape in my walkman not having a clue what was about to happen.  the was one of the best rides to school – ever!  not long after that i caught eye of the video for One.  the imagery, the lyrics, thought. my life has never been the same.

capitals.

. . . as in letters – not cities.

i've gotten a few messages since i started blogging, and several over the years about my incorrect grammar and lack of capital letters.  i'm not an english major, and i dont really remember having much grammar in school... but i write quickly, and i write how i think.  it is what it is.  honest and raw.

as for the the capital letters – they just annoy me.  flat out.  distracting even.  they stand out.  things that stand out should be things of importance... and where as the beginning of new spewage of text may be important to some, it is not to me.    my friend is creative with the capital letters though.  he throws them in middle of words, he uses them in places that they matter.  that i love.

so, lesson:
capital letter = take note.
BOLD/ITALICS = they're will be a pop quiz later.

Thanks for reading :)

true.

the guy you see at the right...  truly a great person.  he'd give you the shirt off his back, without you asking, if he thought you might need it.  he's one of the only friends i still hang with from high school.   he works hard. he's got a huge heart.  always looking for a good time. he's always there.  he's helped me move countless times - including driving a box truck back thru the mountains in a blizzard. the roadtrips... the concerts... the races... and this weekend – he's helping me me (more like i'm helping him i guess) finish my garage.  i owe him a lot, yet he just shrugs and accepts nothing in return.  the next few hotbox's and covers are on me grandpa! :)   much love, and thanks for being such an amazing person –– thru everything.  one day it will be amazing and you'll find that they don't always finish last.  you deserve the best.
